Two Major Wins for Us & the Planet

Founding Farmers won two major awards from the Green Restaurant Association last week for our daily efforts to operate sustainably.

The People’s Choice Award, which is voted on by the public, named Farmers Restaurant Group (FRG), which owns and operates Founding Farmers, as their favorite green restaurants in the nation. FRG has seven 3 Star Certified Green Restaurants®, including our five Founding Farmers outposts in the metro DC area and Pennsylvania, as well as Farmers & Distillers and Farmers Fishers Bakers.

Founding Farmers Reston Station also tied for the Near-Zero Waste Award for receiving the most GreenPointsin the Waste category. Sharing this award with the Mammoth Hotel Dining Room in Yellowstone National Park, we earned 74.50 GreenPoints for having a comprehensive recycling and composting program that includes: offering no bottled water or paper towels, using bulk and scratch-made condiments, supporting a reusable mug program, requiring reusable plates and utensils for staff meals, and more.

Collectively, our company restaurants have earned over 1,500 GreenPoints and take multiple steps every day toward eco-friendly operations.

Other company efforts we make for the planet that don’t count toward our Green Restaurant Association scores include our current straw program, Our Last Straw, not serving bottled beer, and our in-house scratch soda program. We also consistently pursue LEED certifications in all of our restaurant design and construction.
