Chef Wins 3rd Place at Bay Fishing Competition
On Monday, Founding Farmers DC Chef Oscar Rivera was a winning angler for Farmers Restaurant Group. He reeled in a 31-inch Chesapeake Bay Rockfish that landed our company team a 3rd place trophy at the 7th Annual Congressional Seafood’s FINvitational.
The event was run by our primary supplier, Congressional Seafood Co, and our team of chefs and managers, led by our Vice President for Quality Assurance & Purchasing, Vicki Griffith, had a great day participating in this fishing event.
While the win was big for Chef Rivera and our company, the purpose of the day trip was bigger. We were working to get better acquainted with our fisherman, our suppliers, and our local vendors and preservation organizations working on the bay. Everyone enjoyed learning a lot more about fresh fish and seafood, as well as the waterways around our home. Of course, we also got to learn about fishing on the Chesapeake Bay, especially for rockfish. This means, of course, the next time rockfish is our catch of the day, some of our chefs will know firsthand what that really means.
