Limited-Edition Bourbon Barrel-Aged Maple Syrup Has Arrived at Founding Farmers

Real maple syrup is a must for pancakes, waffles, and French toast. Its golden brown, delicate flavor is the cherry on top of sweet breakfast treats, and it’s also a fantastic in cocktails and baked goods.

Just in time for the holiday and gift giving season, we have created a very special maple syrup not to be missed. Our LIMITED-EDITION Bourbon Barrel-Aged Maple Syrup has officially arrived at Founding Farmers, thanks to our partnership with Cornell University’s Maple Program and our very own small-batch distillery, Founding Spirits.

The journey started when we sent our previously used, empty Founding Spirits Bourbon barrels from our distillery up north to Lake Placid, New York. The Cornell Maple Program then went to work filling them up with the finest maple syrup upstate New York has to offer. Once full, Cornell let the syrup age in the barrels, infusing the essence of our bourbon for six months. This is where the magic happens. As the syrup sits in the barrels, it draws out flavor compounds stored in the oak walls. This means the flavor of the maple syrup in the barrels is married with hints of caramel, vanilla, cinnamon, and our Founding Spirits Bourbon – all making for the best maple syrup we’ve ever tasted.

We were able to fill 400 bottles of this magical maple syrup, which are available for mail-order sale for a very limited time in a special Breakfast Bundle with our house-roasted Founding Farmers Friendship Blend Coffee.

Our Founding Farmers Friendship Blend Coffee is roasted in small batches in-house with a unique blend of sustainable, fully traceable Central & South American beans to create the perfect cup of coffee that’s equally enjoyable black or with cream & sugar.

The good news is this is not the end for these mighty barrels. These previously used bourbon then maple syrup oak barrels will be put to use one more time to finish a very special edition of our Founding Spirits Bourbon. Aged four to six months in our DC distillery, we will someday soon have a supply of Founding Spirits Maple Barrel-Finished Bourbon. We have begun a cycle of awesome deliciousness we are excited to share with all of you, beginning with our syrup.
