Constance Stuven

Artist Constance Stuven has created art for many of our restaurants. She is a Washington, DC-based painter, sculptor, and furniture designer with a love of landscape watercolors and intaglio etchings. Holding a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design, Stuven has exhibited works around DC and New York, including several large, commissioned ceiling murals and large chalkboard murals at restaurants.

Our Reston Station location showcases Stuven’s mixed media wall installation, which is inspired by the flower gardens at Monticello. It showcases some of the wide range of exotic, experimental, useful, and ornamental flowers from around the world that grow seasonally on the property.

In King of Prussia, our General’s Parlor private dining room features her hand-painted murals depicting scenes from Valley Forge and illustrating Pennsylvania’s state tree, the Eastern Hemlock. Inspired by the stories of life and perseverance during this pivotal point in our American history, Stuven created a 360-degree mural featuring bunnies as soldiers, including one of General George Washington surveying his troops and running drills, others as busy builders securing the camp, and bakers and cooks providing sustenance for the soldiers. The lower panels have bunny officers reviewing strategies and soldiers in their barracks playing cards. Artist Stuven referenced the bunnies of sculptor Darla Jackson to help illustrate the historic narrative of the long, cold winter encampment of 1777-78. Her murals also give a sense of the hardworking and proud nature of these soldiers, as well as the bakers and farmers who supplied sustenance to them.

Stuven’s bunnies also make an appearance in our Alexandria restaurant with two whimsical bunny paintings on either side of our bar. The first takes place on the historic waterfront of Old Town, Alexandria. At the center of the scene, pirate bootlegger bunnies playfully gather and run the moonshine, while the distillers are shown distilling Founding Spirits. Stuvens second playful painting depicts bootlegger bunnies enjoying the fruits of their labor. The mischievous bunnies can be seen causing a ruckus at a party after overindulging. Stuven has been working with the Founding Farmers Restaurant Group as part of our design and development team, and we are delighted to have her art on display across our restaurants.
