Welcome to true food & drink.
1924 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, WDC 20006
Opened in September 2008, Founding Farmers offers farm-inspired American true food and drink in a modern, casual and eco-friendly setting. From our modern farmhouse, our menus for breakfast, lunch, dinner and brunch include homemade and ’scratch-made’ traditional American classics inspired by the heartland.
We are dedicated to environmentally friendly practices at every turn and are proud to be DC’s first LEED (Gold) certified restaurant. We are a Certified Green RestaurantTM, and we offset our greenhouse gas emissions through Carbonfund.org. While we can’t provide absolution on environmental issues, when it comes to restaurants, you can be confident that Founding Farmers is making a wide and deep commitment across a spectrum of important topics to help preserve the earth. We’ll never be perfect in each and every area, but we do make an impact as we strive to serve the truest food and drink to our guests.
Our Mission
At Founding Farmers we believe that everyone benefits by knowing more about the sources of the food they eat; we work diligently, albeit imperfectly, to ensure our restaurant walks its talk on matters of sustainability. Take comfort knowing that nearly all of our products are made by us, including all breads, pastries, dressings, sauces, pastas, desserts and even our ice cream. When ingredients are available locally and it is sensible for us to buy them, we do. We serve chicken, beef, pork and dairy from certified sources that state their commitment to sustainable farming and clean foods, we buy our seafood from vendors committed to the standards of FishWatch.
A collective of American family farmers owns our restaurant and our sister restaurant, Farmers & Fishers. We promote the products and services of family farms, ranches, and fisheries from across the country. We celebrate and share the long-standing connection between farmers - the first to lead the “green” movement - and their historic stewardship of natural resources.
