Keeping it Green in King of Prussia
Founding Farmers King of Prussia just received our 3 Star Certification from the Green Restaurant Association for our daily work to implement and maintain earth-friendly restaurant operations.
Because operating sustainably is a critical mission across our company, all of our restaurants go through the Green Restaurant Association certification program. At Founding Farmers KOP, we implemented 65 environmental steps and achieved 206.14
GreenPoints™, which can be seen in their detailed evaluation. To achieve a 3 Star Green Restaurant certification, we earn points across seven environmental categories, including food, water, energy, waste, disposables, furnishings and building, chemicals and pollution.
Farmers Restaurant Group sees these certifications as our baseline, and we are striving to operate more sustainably in everything we do, including our food purchasing practices that work to unbundle the industrial food chain and to make everything we can from scratch using sources we know and trust. The water-filtering program we have had in place since we opened keeps plastic bottles out of our restaurants and reduces the number in landfills. We also recently adopted a new straw program that only uses drinking straws when requested or necessary, and then, only uses biodegradable paper straws. These are just a few of the ways we are working to do more good and less harm, every day.
At Founding Farmers KOP, since our initial evaluation from the Green Restaurant Association, we have added something none of our other restaurants have had yet, what we affectionately refer to as our Pig: a BioHiTech eco-safe digester that naturally breaks down food waste into liquid form, dramatically reducing the amount of waste we send to landfills. We are certain to earn additional GreenPoints™ once the Green Restaurant Association shines their earth-friendly eyes on our amazing Pig.
At Farmers Restaurant Group, we know our mission makes an impact. And we also know that we need outside experts to help us as we build and operate our green restaurants. Working with consultants, such as the Green Restaurant Association, ensures that we are doing all that we can to preserve the earth today, and help us look toward more sustainable practices in the future.
