Hunting for @FFBees with little dots on their back to photograph for our Spot The FFBees contest can be thirst-inducing work. Revive yourself at either Founding Farmers location through May 18 — the contest’s final day — with this honey-inspired libation by Chief Mixologist Jon Arroyo.
Today, Founding Farmers and George Washington University marked the start of the second year for @FFBees — literally. Professor Hartmut Doebel, who oversees the apiary we share with GW, and his assistants have marked a new batch of honeybees with small, colorful dots so that the bees can be tracked. You can read the full press release about the apiary, and the Founding Farmers/GW partnership, here. And watch for upcoming news about @FFBees.
In the meantime, today’s event marks the start of a new Founding Farmers contest:
Spot The FFBees!
Now through May 18, be on the lookout for bees with colorful dots on their backs. If you find one, get a picture of it and send the photo to @FFBees (and be sure to copy our Twitter account as well: @foundingfarmers) or to the Founding Farmers’ Facebook page. Every person who sends us an image receives a $10 Founding Farmers gift card, good at either location. And everyone who has sent a picture will be entered into a drawing for the grand prize: a $500 gift card!
WTOP’s Brennan Haselton visited GWU’s Lisner Hall to learn more about @FFBees, our apiary project with George Washington University. Click below to listen to his report.
Washington Post blog Campus Overload took notice of our six-hive apiary, a new partnership with George Washington University to bring locally-sourced honey to Founding Farmers. Expect to hear more about the apiary this summer, and follow the project on Twitter: @FFbees.
